JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT SHOOTS STRAIGHT WITH A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR AIRPORT IMPROVEMENT PLAN
Years after legendary Hollywood actor John Wayne last graced the silver screen, the characters he played still live on in the American consciousness. Nowhere is this more true than in Orange County, California, where John Wayne Airport provides transport links to approximately 9 million passengers a year, flying them non-stop across the US and Canada to over 20 locations.
Being the sole provider of air travel to such a large customer base is no small task, the Orange County Board of Supervisors approved a US$543 million, seven-year airport improvement programme to make sure Wayne was equipped to take on the challenge.
ON TIME, UNDER BUDGET, AND FLYING HIGH
No one in Orange County or at John Wayne Airport had any misconceptions about how huge this project was, which is why Oracle’s Primavera solution was chosen to ensure successful delivery and tight financial control.
For Larry Serafini, a Deputy Airport Director at John Wayne Airport, the choice was simple:
“Oracle’s Primavera tool enables us to tightly control public-works project budgets, as well as to provide seamless access to related information, resulting in important savings.”
And the decision paid dividends. The airport now looks completely different from when this project was first conceived; a statue of John Wayne now stands guard at the entrance of the new Thomas F Reilly terminal; cutting-edge passenger processing technology sees millions of flyers a year swiftly on their way to their destinations; and new customer parking structures have provided over 2,000 new parking spaces in an environment designed with both sustainability and seismic performance in mind - after all, this is California.
Perhaps most impressive though, is that all of this - and much more - was achieved on time and millions of dollars under budget, thanks to careful planning, management, and controls provided by Oracle’s Primavera solution.
